Among the many projects I meant to get on with

During the week (briefly) and finally yesterday, I completed the gesso base coating. I did have a good intention of brushing white highlights on today, but, nothing got done!

Shields swords spears

The Plasticsoldierreview.com has many nice things to say about Trojan and Mycenaean minis. What it doesn't mention is:
Many of the lugs provided do not fit well into the shields;
Some minis that ought to have a lug to mount a shield only have a natural hand, that does not fit into any shield;
Spears tend to be a little loose in ring-hand mounts.
So, a good few hours are required to perform those fiddly joins, and by the 3/4 mark I regretted buying these kits. I have a nasty feeling that some of the shields will fall off as paint is applied.

Mycenaean chariots

The four chariots and 1x4Sp are now ready to add to an Achaian army list of one sort or another, or to Sea Peoples. I'll hold off final base dressing to do all inclusive; I'm not even sure what the general appearance ought to be.

I've gone back over some of the "Sherden" style sea peoples to add bronze to the inverse-v chest protection. These are the ugly HaT minis, to be sure, but I think they convey more of the original Ramses iii period "artist's eye" for the equipment. Our cultural baggage affects how we see things!

Assembled, but without final wash/varnish: included at bottom left is an element of sea people Sherden I used for continuity of paint scheme.

bench update 10 December 2023

Some visible progress. This is a new grouting compound, that is designed to look like mortar. I thought it might be ideal for basing. But it has lower adhesion than regular, which means that the chariot montage may pop off if knocked.
